FAQ
Why should I buy a Radiology Information System?
- Radiology Information Systems (RIS) automate workflow for imaging modalities and nuclear medicine, streamline information acquisition, access and retrieval. In addition, RIS offers patient and resource scheduling, patient registration, order entry, charge capture, exam and film tracking, dictation and transcription, electronic signature, and report distribution. RIS users today can also expect RIS applications to integrate with Picture Archiving Communication Systems (PACS) and voice recognition technology, the latest tools in Radiology automation. All in all, a RIS can effectively increase the productivity of your center and manage your overall business.
Why should I choose a RIS from XIMIS?
- XIRIS™, extended Internet Radiology Information System, is a complete web based application designed to manage patient registration, scheduling, exam tracking, staff and resource management and the generation of reports and statistical information. XIMIS offers a completely customized solution to manage your Radiology Center to increase productivity and provide tools that your staff will want to use. You will not find another system that will provide you with better value for your investment.
- All of our features are modular, which means you only pay for what you need.
- XIMIS has carefully analyzed the needs of our marketplace to include features and functionalities that adapt to the way radiology centers work instead of having our customers adapt to the technology. We provide flexible functionalities that allow for easy integration to your existing workflow.
Which HIS have you integrated with? And how do you handle the HIS<>RIS integration?
- Some of the vendors with whom we have integrated with are Meditech, IDX, Dairyland and CPSI. Using our own HL7 broker we can integrate with any HIS that uses the HL7 standard. However, if you are a non-HL7 conforming center, we do have a set of utilities with API to interface to your existing HIS. Since we have full control over our systems, we can pretty much integrate with any protocols that exist. Alternatively, if you have your own SDK, we are also willing to use it.
When was your first RIS installation?
- Our first RIS installation was in 1999 at the Diagnostic Outpatient Imaging in El Paso. See the case study:
DOI Case Study
What is the most significant cost of acquiring a RIS?
- It depends on your center's operation. However, the most significant cost will be in the system itself. Once you have decided to implement XIRIS™ into your center's operations, you can be up and running within 6 - 8 weeks. Our system is very easy to learn to use, so there will not be a long learning curve. You can begin to run a productive and efficient center almost immediately. You will start seeing positive results in short time.
How much do you charge for custom software changes?
- All implementations are based on customer needs and requirements. Having said that, if there is a special request that a customer wants, there will be a consulting charge. If a customer is willing to wait until the next update release and the request benefits our product and other customers, we may not charge for custom work.
How often do you update your software?
- XIMIS releases a new full version annually at RSNA and half versions are usually launched during SCAR of every year. Depending on the maintenance agreement your center holds, you will receive the updates accordingly.
- If there are certain functionalities that you require that are not included in the upgrade schedule, we will be able to provide you with custom development work.
Are you complete HL7 ready?
- Yes, we are. XIMIS has developed our own broker called XMP Broker that can interface with most HIS, PACS, Voice Recognition systems and other applications that require HL7. In addition, the XMP Broker serves the DICOM worklist. We can also integrate via the XMP Broker through custom interface using an HTTP references API, SDK or XML for example.
Does the software require one or more full-time system administrators?
- XIRIS™ can be maintained entirely remotely so there is no need for a full-time systems administrator. However, we do recommend that your center designate an individual for basic administration functions.
What is the average response time to get a problem resolved for a customer?
- XIRIS™ is a mature product and we release well-tested modules that our customers rarely experience problems. When our customers do face problems with our software, our support staff is available for immediate attention depending on the contract your center holds with us.
How willing are you to listen to customers' suggestions concerning the software? And what is the procedure for implementing changes/additions?
- We have yearly or bi-yearly formal conference calls with our users to ensure that they are happy with the functionalities and also to find out what they would like to see in the future upgrades to XIRIS™. There are a couple of different approaches to implementing changes. Our software upgrade schedule as mentioned above is at RSNA for full versions and normally at SCAR for half versions. However, if it is an immediate concern, XIMIS can respond to it immediately depending on the requirements. Some development fees may apply.
How easy is the software to learn and teach?
- Our customers have historically begun using the system the same day that we train them.
How much downtime has the average customer experienced in the past year?
- None. The only time customers will experience down-time is when we do system upgrades which happens twice a year and always during the center's non-operating hours.
How do you differ from other RIS vendors?
- XIRIS™ is completely web-based application. In addition, XIRIS™ is completely modular so your center only purchases the functionalities it requires. We customize each installation so that XIRIS™ adapts to your center and not the other way around.
